Even if fear of failure seems like an integrated part of your personality today, it wasn’t always there for you.
Like everyone else on the planet, you were once a baby. During that time you had absolutely no fear of failure. I say that with confidence because if you were afraid of failing you would have never learned to walk and talk.
This tells me that somewhere inside, there’s a “you” that is fearless, audacious, and bold.
Here are ways you can access that brave part within you once again and achieve anything you set your mind to:
Approachable goals are about deliberately focusing on what you want to achieve rather than what you want to avoid. This way you energize yourself by the thought of your desire, as opposed to feeling frustrated about what you currently lack.
You also want to start by setting a few bite-sized goals. These should be goals that are achievable and yet slightly challenging. Think of these goals as “early wins” that are designed to help boost your confidence and avoid feeling overwhelmed by the vision of your final goal.
It’s easy to put yourself down for not meeting your income goals, sales quota, or the number of subscribers if you’re focused on hitting a specific number. Don’t get me wrong, I am all about numbers. I am obsessed with clarity, analytics, and statistics. But you need to redefine your definition of success.
If you aim for growth then no matter how close you get to your desired goal, you will still have the opportunity to celebrate, which only encourages you to keep going. This leads me to my next point.
Celebrating my progress in business, and in my personal life, in general, was one of the hardest lessons to implement. As a high-achiever, I used to deeply struggle with accepting anything less than perfect from myself. If you’ve been following me for a while you know that I am still an advocate for aiming for excellence, but not at the expense of my self-worth and confidence.
For some of you, it could look like acknowledging the fact that you showed up on your IG stories. For others, it could be remembering to recall your strengths before hopping on a sales call, regardless of the end result. These actions are all worth celebrating as they signify your commitment to growth.
Sometimes when things go extremely wrong, we tend to fall prey to feeling shame and guilt about who we are. Although it’s only human to feel those emotions, you do not need to believe everything you think. In those times it’s important to recognize that being imperfect, failing, and experiencing life difficulties are inevitable. It’s something we all go through.
Usually what stops people from stepping out of their comfort zone and going after what they TRULY want is the fearful “what-ifs” in their minds. “What if I fail? What if I embarrass myself? What if people think I am a fraud? What if I lose everything I worked hard for?”
A fantastic way to turn this around is by choosing to focus on the positive what-ifs. “What if you succeed? What if you inspire 1000s of women to work with you? What if your business will grow faster than you ever thought possible?”
There is a 50/50 chance of your negative predictions coming true which leaves the other 50/50 chance for the positive predictions. In turn, your positive expectations will yield a better mood, attitude, actions, and thus results!
I’ve made it my mission to serve founders like you – showing exactly how you can boldly close more sales and take your business to the next level while being your authentic, fearless self.
